Out Patient Therapy

Positive Leaps treats children from age 18 months through 17 years old in Out Patient therapy. Out Patient therapy is appropriate for children or teens who are experiencing mild mental health symptoms. The child or teen is able to function normally at home, at preschool or school, and when out in the community. Typically, a child attends Individual Therapy once a week, and parents and other family members every other week, depending upon the needs of the child and his or her family. A licensed therapist determines if a child or teen is appropriately treated at the Out Patient level of care.

Intensive Out Patient Therapy

Positive Leaps treats children from ages 18 months 17 years old in Intensive Out Patient therapy. Intensive Out Patient therapy is appropriate for children or teens who are experiencing moderate mental health symptoms. The child’s or teen’s mental health symptoms may have minor impact upon daily functioning at home, at preschool or school, or when out in the community.  In the Intensive Out Patient program, therapy generally occurs more frequently than in Out Patient therapy, as little as twice weekly up to 5 days a week, depending upon the child’s clinical circumstances. Intensive Out Patient therapy is also a “step-down” setting following Day Treatment. In this case, the child is seen five days a week, and Family Therapy sessions occur once weekly. A licensed therapist determines if a child or teen is appropriately treated at the Intensive Out Patient level of care.
